The Berardo Museum
The Berardo Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art. It is located in the Cultural Center of Belem. The entrance to the museum is through a large esplanade and I was greeted by a sculpture by Dubuffet.
This museum, installed since 2007 at the heart of the cultural center of Belém, presents some part of the exceptional collection of modern and contemporary art by the billionaire madérien J. Berardo. A historical and thematic journey representative of the principal European and American movements of the 20th and 21st century allows Picasso's works to be discovered,
The Berardo Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has one of the largest and most recent world collections of its kind. Centered by the most important artistic movements of the twentieth century, here you can see works by big names such as Duchamp, Picasso, Bacon, Moore, Mondrian, or Warhol. An unmissable place for those who are passionate about art!
The painting collection of the Berardo Museum in Lisbon (Cultural Center of Belém) has just integrated Google Art. This museum is now part of the 151 museums that can be visited through digital technology. Works by the Portuguese artist Amadeo de Souza Cardoso or the French Robert Delaunay and many others belonging to the Berardo collection can be seen by everyone. These are currently more than 30,000 works that can be discovered on Google Art.
In all, 862 works are visible in the permanent collection of the museum, which will be supplemented by temporary exhibitions of other works from the Berardo collection. Some are already presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Sintra. The importance of the Berardo collection will allow rotations between works, many of which will not be exhibited permanently. This concept, which is "dynamic, didactic and flexible", reminds a little the operation of the Guggenheim museums that play the card of the rotation.
Around 70 artistic trends are represented and explained at the Belém Museum. It is the perfect way to take stock of movements as fruitful (and sometimes obscure!) As fluxus, neo-constructivism, lettrism, body art, De Stijl or arte povera. In addition to modern and contemporary art, the collection also includes art deco, Portuguese ceramics, African art and digital works. And yes, my Berardo is rich! It is up to you to make the most of it...
