Museum in Lisbon

The city of Lisbon is a perfect invitation to discover an impressive local culture, ideal for dilettantes of museums of all kinds. There is everything in the capital to bring happiness to young and old alike.

Lisbon has a wealth of cultural sites that most visitors do not have the opportunity to discover. Some may, moreover, seem disappointing to those who are accustomed to collections that advanced other major European cities, find exhibitions poor in quantity and artistic value, Portugal has not apprehended the development of large fortunes and therefore the patronage (with the exception of that of Calouste Gulbenklan).

This is why, during a short stay, it is better to focus on the most incomparable and authentic museums, directly linked to Portugal's cultural legacies and artistic developments.

There are probably museums in Lisbon that can be visited, each one of them,  voluntarily ... Now that you know, here are some details that deserve to be raised.

Some galleries are totally free and others are only free one day a week or a month, especially on Sundays. But the options are interesting and you will save some money.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of cultural spaces that will not cost you a penny. The Berardo Museum located in the Cultural Center of Belém is famous for being a tourist site of contemporary art exhibiting the collection of José Berardo, a wealthy and millionaire Portuguese.

The Mude Museum or Museum of Design and Fashion, located in the Baixa, rua Augusta offers a Millenium Gallery presenting various exhibitions. The site is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm

Near the Marquês de Pombal square is the Galerie BES, which contributes to the presentation of contemporary art. This tourist area is available from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm.

The famous Museum of the Bank of Portugal is open to the general public every day from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm. The D. Dinis Wall Interpretation Center, also known as the Bank of Portugal, is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and from Tuesday to Saturday at the same time.

Finally, the Casa dos Bicos in Alfama is a famous museum available every day from 10 am to 6 pm, but closes every Sunday. It is necessary to specify that the entries for all these sites are free.
