The Alfama in Lisbon
Like any other tourist destination, Lisbon has also its neighborhood of the period. This is Alfama, an old bourgeois village that has preserved its charm of yesteryear. Even with time, it remains eye- catching with its exceptional labyrinth of small streets taking passers-by to a circuit from the estuary of the Tagus to the castle of the top of the hill.
If one prolongs the visit, one can discover precious historical vestiges located in the center of the district of Alfama. The Sé Cathedral is one of the most prestigious treasures of the locality, but also of Lisbon. The castle of Saint-Georges is also among the exceptional sites that should not be missed during a stay in Alfama.
If you want to know the history of the city, a small pop over to the National Pantheon will make you discover all the wealth of Lisbon heritage still standing and in excellent condition. At the beginning of the 13th century, the district of Alfama was located outside the walls of Lisbon. Those who were there were destined to welcome the poor patriots.
But the years have passed, the village has today become a center of youth and dynamism. Alfama is one of the most beautiful destinations in the capital and is famous for its superb tourist attractions that make of this place so famous.
It is nice to take advantage of a delicious walk aboard the famous tram 28 of Alfama ... It is a real real heart - stopper! We appreciate the smell of kitchens, the view offered by the cloths hanging from the windows, the children playing on the avenues of the city, the housewives who talk peacefully in the shade ... Scenes that breathe the good old Lisbon!
The district of Alfama has this historical "something", a pleasant tranquility and the relaxing atmosphere that you will really appreciate to the extent that you want to come back for the next vacation!
